A small footprint round-house, this unique yurt house on Vashon island is a study in sustainable construction. The slab-on-grade is super-insulated with 4″ rigid insulation throughout. All of the interior surfaces are reclaimed old growth 2×6 studs, milled into flooring and ship-lap siding. All paints and stains are zero-VOC. The walls and ceiling are also super-insulated with Roxul mineral wool. The primary heat source is a hyper efficient ductless heat pump. Take a look at the client’s blog which chronicles the whole building process for more ideas and resource links on sustainable construction.
