Deck Innovation

What makes this 2nd story “flat-roof” deck in Seattle so special is the unique and innovative approach to compressing the structure in order to capture as much headspace below as possible, resulting in a dry and functional ground floor bonus space. Rather than typical 2x joists, this structure relies on 3×6 Douglas Fir beams turned on their sides, sandwiched between layers of ¾” plywood, then finished above with a pour-down roof membrane and cedar railing system and stair.
